Magnolia

Magnolia Course

At 3,518 yards, this is the longest of Callawassie Island’s three nines. In order to successfully navigate the course, you must utilize all of your golf skills. Long accurate drives, calculated second shots, as well as precision play of the par 3s, will ensure a successful round.

Hole Description

The opening hole of Magnolia requires a well-placed drive to the left of the fairway bunker. Longer players may decide to challenge carrying the bunkers but still need to play to the left side as the right tree line can affect the second shot to the green. The green slopes from front to back with bunkers guarding the right and left of the green. Long shots will collect in the back closely mown runoff and is not a bad place to play your third shot.

Hole Description

This Par 5 can play long, especially if you miss your tee shot to the left side, as the slope feeds toward out of bounds. Long shots down the right side of the fairway will catch the speed slot and give players a better angle at the green or for laying up. Approaching the green will have to navigate a bunker on the left and an oak tree on the right. Aiming at the middle of this green is always a good play.

Hole Description

This longer Par 3 is guarded by a large bunker on the left and trees on the left. The best approach is to run or chase your golf ball to the middle of this green. Short and right is a better miss than long and left as the green is pitched from back to front.

Hole Description

The tee shot on this Par 4 asks for accuracy. Fairway bunkers on the left and the right protect the landing zone for most drives. The raised back apron makes this green look larger from the fairway and three bunkers help shape this undulated green.

Hole Description

Water runs down the full length of the left side of this dog-leg left hole. Tee shots should be hit at the fairway bunker on the right but not far enough to reach it. This will leave a shorter second shot to a green with a ridge that separates the left and right side of the green. Left pin locations are more challenging with more forced carry over water.

Hole Description

This Par 3 visually hits over water that sits short and left of this green. The green has a very pronounced slope from back to front and is defended by bunkers left and right. Leaving your tee shot short of the pin location will give you a nice uphill putt.

Hole Description

The goal for all tee shots on this hole is to avoid the large oak tree on the right. Most players will hit something less than driver to the left. Longer, more risky players may hit driver over the tree to fairway to the right. The Fore Bunker short and left can catch long drives but is also visual descriptive for second shots into the green for players that choose to lay back on the tee shot. The green is long and narrow with a small false front and a ridge that runs off the back.

Hole Description

This Par 5 becomes more difficult with each shot as you approach the green and is a 3 shot hole for most players. The tee shot promotes more right to left flighted shot to optimize the distance off the tee. Water runs along the left side of the hole from tee to green. The fairway narrows with water left and out of bounds right for the layup shot. The green has multiple tiers for pin locations, being on the proper tier is important for approach shots.

Hole Description

This signature hole is not only challenging but also visually pleasing. The marsh runs the complete length of the hole and juts nearly halfway across the hole to the left. The tee shot needs to be strategically placed short or left of the marsh. The large 3 tier green provides lot of creative short game shots if you miss the green and is not a simple 2 putt from the wrong tier.
