A Club Life Within Reach

Exploring the Amenities of Callawassie Island

For many people considering a move to a private island community, the question is not simply, “Is it beautiful?” Beauty is often what first catches the eye, but the decision to make a place home usually comes down to something more practical and more personal, of course paired with beauty: What will life actually look like here?

On Callawassie Island, the answer can be found in the way the community is designed. Across 880-acres of Certified Wildlife Habitat, the island brings together recreation, wellness, dining, social connection, and Lowcountry scenery in a way that supports a full and active lifestyle without requiring residents to leave the place they call home. Callawassie Islands amenities are not treated as occasional extras. They are woven into daily life, offering residents and their families places to gather, move, relax, learn, and connect.

That access is one of the defining features of the Callawassie experience. A morning may begin on the course, continue with lunch at the Clubhouse, move into an afternoon fitness class or pickleball match, and end with dinner overlooking the Colleton River that may or may not include a dolphin sighting. For some residents, the day is active from start to finish. For others, the appeal is simply knowing the options are close at hand.

At the center of island life is the Callawassie Island Clubhouse, a gathering place surrounded by moss-draped oaks and water views. The Clubhouse serves as a natural hub for dining, events, club gatherings, and everyday connection. It is where residents can meet for brunch, share cocktails, attend community events, or linger in conversation after a round of golf or a morning activity. The setting is elegant, but the purpose is welcoming: to give the community a place to come together in the ordinary and special moments alike.

For more waterfront dining and relaxed Lowcountry living, the River Club offers another distinct gathering place just down the street. Set along the Colleton River as well, the River Club features waterfront dining, a large family pool, sundeck, playground area, and fire pit. It is a favorite setting for casual meals, sunny afternoons, and evenings that naturally stretch a little longer because the view gives everyone a reason to stay. For residents who want their social life to feel closely tied to the water, the River Club is an important part of what makes Callawassie feel both active and restorative.

Golf is absolutely one of Callawassie’s signature experiences, and the island offers three, Tom Fazio designed scenic 9-hole courses with a total of 27 holes: Dogwood, Palmetto, and Magnolia. The Golf Pro Shop supports the game with gear, apparel, and on-the-go essentials, while on-site golf professionals offer individual lessons, group clinics, and events. The result is a golf environment that works for many kinds of players, those who want to improve their game, those who love friendly competition, and those who simply enjoy the pace and camaraderie of a day on the course.

And if you need a little extra work on your swing, spend time at the practice range, which includes 12 hitting stations, a dedicated chipping green, and a separate putting green. Maintained to the same specifications as the course greens, these practice areas give players a true feel for course conditions as they warm up, refine their short game, or enjoy a little extra time with the sport.

Racquet sports bring another lively layer to Callawassie Island. The Racquet Sports Facility includes six Har-Tru tennis courts, four pickleball courts, ball machines, and on-site instruction for players of all levels. The racquet community is active and social, with recurring island-wide events and matches that make it easy for residents to find a partner, join a game, or sharpen their skills. Whether someone has played for years or is just beginning, the courts offer a welcoming way to stay active and meet people through shared interest. Always full of excitement and energy, we welcome spectators to grab a drink and cheer on the players.

Wellness also has a dedicated place on the island. The Fitness Center provides a private, personalized setting with modern equipment, personal training, group classes, massage therapy, nutritional guidance, and physical therapy sessions. That range matters because wellness looks different for every resident. For one person, it may mean strength training or cardio. For another, it may mean indoor cycling, stretching, recovery, or working with a trainer to stay confident and mobile. The Fitness Center gives residents the tools and support to make wellness part of their routine in a way that fits their life.

There’s no doubt that life on Callawassie Island extends naturally outdoors and onto the water. Through the island’s lifestyle offerings, residents can enjoy paddling, boating, biking, walking, and time along the waterways that shape the Lowcountry experience. The Discovery Tour experience gives prospective residents a taste of this lifestyle, including access to amenities such as the fitness center, pools, Clubhouse, River Club, racquet courts, golf courses, and opportunities for activities like kayaking, boating, dining, tennis, pickleball, and biking. For prospects, this is especially useful: it allows them to experience the lifestyle firsthand, not just read about it.

Callawassie’s clubs and interest groups add another meaningful layer to the amenity experience. With more than 50 active clubs and groups, our residents have countless ways to connect through shared interests from golf, paddling, tennis, fishing, and gardening to social gatherings, volunteer opportunities, and island-wide activities. While amenities provide the places, our clubs and interest groups help bring them to life. They turn our facilities into routines, introductions into friendships, and shared hobbies into a deeper sense of belonging.

The island also includes amenities that make everyday living more enjoyable in smaller but meaningful ways for our residents. The Callawassie Island Dog Park gives residents and their pets a place to enjoy open play areas, shaded spots, and time with fellow pet owners. The newly added Bocce Courts, located just steps from the Clubhouse, offer a low-impact and highly social way to spend time outside, whether residents are playing casually or enjoying a little friendly competition. These details matter because they add texture to lifestyle on the island.

What stands out across our amenities is not only the variety, but how they work together. Golf, racquet sports, fitness, dining, pools, water access, clubs, bocce, and gathering spaces each offer something distinct, but they all support the same larger idea: life here is designed to be lived fully. Our residents of all ages can be active, social, relaxed, competitive, involved, or quietly connected depending on the day. The community gives them room to choose.

We know that our private island setting may create the first impression for all who crave the beauty of the Lowcountry in a private setting, but we believe our amenities help answer the deeper question of whether daily life will feel engaging and sustainable over time. Here, residents are not limited to one version of island living. You can build a day around the course, the courts, the water, the Clubhouse, the Fitness Center, a club meeting, a dinner reservation, a dog walk, or a simple game of bocce with neighbors and family.

That is the true value of a club life within reach. It is not about filling every hour. It is about having access to the places, people, and experiences that make each day feel more complete.

On Callawassie Island, the amenities are more than features on a list. They are the framework for a lifestyle, active, social, polished, and deeply connected to the Lowcountry setting. For those imagining what it would be like to live here, they offer a clear answer: this is a place where there is always a way to participate, always a place to gather, and always something close at hand to make the day feel well spent.
