Big East Takes Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships To Callawassie Island | Callawassie Island

After two years of holding its men’s golf championship at Callawassie Island Golf Club in South Carolina the BIG EAST has added its women’s championship to Callawassie for the first time.
The BIG EAST Women’s Golf Championship will be held April 22-24. The BIG EAST Men’s Golf Championship will be May 1-3. One round of action will take place on each day of the tournaments beginning at 8 a.m. ET. All rounds of the Championships, which will be played on the Dogwood and Magnolia Courses, are free and open to the public.
The winning teams of the three-day events will earn the BIG EAST’s automatic berths into the NCAA Tournament. In the men’s championship, should the individual winner not be a member of that team, he will also earn a spot in the NCAA field.
“The BIG EAST men’s golf championship has been held at Callawassie Island Club since 2014 and our coaches, student-athletes and administrators have had an incredible experience there,” said Chris Schneider, BIG EAST Associate Commissioner of Olympic Sports. “We are excited to be bringing both our men’s and women’s golf championships to Callawassie Island Club for the first time. Not only is Callawassie a championship caliber course, but the professionalism and hospitality shown by all of the staff members and residents of Callawassie makes for a remarkable experience for our student-athletes.”
“The support of the Callawassie golf club members and local community who are out on the course cheering on our student-athletes has left a great impression on our student-athletes and we look forward to six great days of competition in the coming weeks.”
On the women’s side, Seton Hall has won the last two BIG EAST titles. Last year, the Pirates edged Georgetown by one stroke for the league crown. The other BIG EAST women’s golf participants are: Xavier, St. John’s, Butler and Creighton.
In last year’s men’s tournament at Callawassie, Marquette rallied to pass runner-up DePaul by two strokes for the team title. The other BIG EAST men’s teams are: Xavier, Seton Hall, Georgetown, Butler, Creighton, St. John’s and Villanova.
