Here, you will find a community where residents cherish, celebrate, and connect over the surrounding natural environment and its wellbeing. Neighbors quickly turn into friends here on Callawassie Island as our community fosters and encourages connection through over 50 active clubs and organizations.

Ecology

Callawassie Island is one of hundreds of sea islands scattered along the Carolina coast, allowing our island to encapsulate everything you think of when you think of the Lowcountry. Surrounded by tidal creeks and rivers, shaded by live oaks draped with Spanish moss, our environment is unique, and our residents take pride in celebrating and protecting it. Certified by the National Wildlife Federation, in 2007, Callawassie Island was the first community recognized as a Wildlife Habitat in the state of South Carolina. Our golf course also acquired the status of a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in 2017.

Community

The amenities on Callawassie Island provide casual settings for residents to mingle with friends, family, and neighbors. Our River Club, situated on the majestic Colleton River, offers our residents an outdoor family swimming pool, and a casual dining restaurant with surrounding waterfront views inside. The Clubhouse serves as a central meeting space and beautiful event venue, and its Fitness Center allows residents an outlet for socializing, exercising, and bettering their overall health.

Philanthropy

Friends of Callawassie Island, Inc. (FOCI) is a charitable nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to provide financial support to worthy organizations serving the needs of the disadvantaged and underserved residents of the surrounding Beaufort and Jasper counties. Through events, corporate and business sponsorships, and individual donations, FOCI has awarded over $750,000 in grants to local nonprofit organizations since its inception in 2001.
