Coastal Pleasures

 

On and around Callawassie Island enjoy Lowcountry vistas and nature sports, as well as Hilton Head Island and Hunting Island beaches.

• Kayaking. Kayak around the island from our community docks. Or, join the Kayaking Club on one of their numerous outings taken throughout the year, exploring the ever-changing salt marshes and rivers.
• Boating. Community docks are available at our River Club and at the Sugar Mill Ruins. Property owners may tie their boats up for several days at the River Club Dock, which has deep water access to the Inter-coastal Waterway and Ocean. Callawassie Island property owners have access to secure storage for trailered boats just outside the island's security gate.
• Fishing, Crabbing, Shrimping. Some of the world's best inshore fishing abounds in our surrounding tidal rivers, creeks, and ponds. Residents shrimp and crab right off the community docks. Fishing can also be done there as well as in the numerous fresh water ponds around the island.
• Deep-sea fishing is accessible from the adjoining Colleton River through Port Royal Sound.
• Beaches. Hilton Head Island is known for its numerous wide sandy beaches. Hunting Island State Park is home to a pristine maritime beach and offers myriad educational programs and opportunities to volunteer in their environmental programs.
