Golf Course Renovations
Completion of the course-wide renovation raised the curtain on a new era in golf at Callawassie Island. The two-year, $4 million renovation of all 27 holes of the Tom Fazio-designed course rebuilt greens with 'mini-verde' ultradwarf hybrid Bermuda grass and restored the courses to Fazio's original design standards. The state-of-the-art irrigation system installed during the renovation reduces watering requirements by more than 50 percent over the previous system. Since opening, the course has received rave reviews and reaffirmed the community's pride in this world-class amenity.
According to former Augusta National Course Superintendent, Billy Fuller, who consulted with the Fazio team on the recent renovation, the course offers 'high aesthetic and strategic values resulting in tremendous playability for all levels from higher handicapped amateurs to the professional level.' Callawassie Island's natural setting provides an unequalled scenic backdrop.
