General Manager/Director of Golf Jeff Spencer leads Callawassie Island's professional staff. They provide an expert year-round golfing experience, including skilled instruction and engaging events. Jeff comes to us from Colleton River Plantation in Bluffton, SC. Prior to that he was Director of Golf and Head Pro at several clubs in Georgia. Jeff grew up in Northern California, where he was introduced to golf by his father and grandfather at the age of 4. His love of the game would eventually lead him on a lifelong journey in the golf business, beginning with an opportunity to be mentored by Jim Lucius, one of the most respected professionals in golf. Jeff currently serves as Vice President of the Hilton Head Chapter, Carolinas Section, of the PGA. Jeff and his wife, Dr. Lorrie, made Bluffton and the Lowcountry their home in 2004. They have two children. |

Head Golf Professional Bryan Haught comes to Callawassie from South Carolina National where he served as the Head Golf Professional from 2005-2007. Bryan, originally from Beaufort, SC, is currently the Director of the Beaufort Junior Golf Association; a position he has held for the past five years. Jeff and Bryan are accomplished teachers with extensive experience in tournament operations. We are very pleased and fortunate to have them on staff at the Callawassie Island Club. |

Golf Course Superintendent A native South Carolinian, Billy attended Clemson University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Turfgrass. During his tenure at Clemson, he worked for The Walker Course, the University Golf Course, as well as the Clemson University Athletic Department. He completed two internships while at Clemson. First, working at Long Cove Club, a top 100 club located on Hilton Head Island and worked for Frontier Construction as an Assistant Project Manager. While in that position, Billy helped manage the complete renovation of The River Course on Kiawah Island, SC. He also helped manage the complete renovation of the golf course at Callawassie Island while serving as Assistant. |

Tennis Professional Bill Hoppe grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, where he learned to play and teach tennis while working for his father at the Bluegrass Racquet Club. He was ranked in the top 30 in the South as a junior before playing college tennis at Georgetown College and the University of Kentucky. Bill has been with Callawassie Island since 1995 and has enjoyed watching the tennis facilities and membership grow. |

Executive Chef Bruce Bailey is originally from Pittsfield, MA. Serving as a line cook at the Ebb Tide restaurant on Cape Cod was the catalyst that encouraged Bruce to become a professional chef. He apprenticed at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club in Jacksonville, FL, working his way up to become the chef de cuisine in their signature restaurant. After holding the position of Executive Chef of the Florida Yacht for several years, Bruce took the position of Executive Chef at the Raleigh Country Club. He has been meeting and exceeding Callawassie Island Club members expectations since 2007. |

Fitness Coordinator Cyndi May has lived in Beaufort since 1976, where she and her husband, Jim, raised three sons. Before coming to Callawassie, Cyndi served as the Fitness Director and Manager at Parris Island for 18 years. Her professional certifications include: The Cooper Institute for Aerobic Research, Aerobic and Fitness Association of America, Aquatic Exercise Association, YMCA, American Fitness Professionals and Associates, and Nautilus Trainer Certification. She is also certified in Yoga and Pilates through the International Sports Medicine Association and in sports nutrition and weight management. |
